PGA WORKS John & Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program
Application status: Closed

PGA REACH, the 501(c)3 foundation of PGA of America, has established a scholarship program to assist students intent on pursuing PGA of America Membership. These $8,000 scholarships are designed to improve the recruitment and retention of talented and motivated students from diverse and historically underrepresented backgrounds, who are pursuing PGA Membership through PGA Golf Management University Programs nationwide.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the PGA WORKS John & Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program must be:

  • High school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates. An intentional focus is placed on engaging a diverse demographic of participants, but all are welcome to apply.
  • Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at one of the 17 accredited PGA Golf Management Universities pursuing a PGA Golf Management degree for the entire 2024-2025 academic year, with the intent to pursue PGA of America Membership

Eligible individuals exclude persons or family members of the PGA of America National Board, staff, or scholarship selection committee.

Award Amounts
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an $8,000 award. Up to twenty-five (25) awards will be granted. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

One award will be given to the top candidate interested or experienced in working internationally. If there are no qualified candidates for the international interest award, it will be given to the next ranked candidate.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification
Applicants will be notified in March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PGA of America. Payments are made in early August.

Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • honors
  • work experience
  • a statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • unusual personal or family circumstances
  • an online recommendation
  • demonstrated active participation in the game of golf.

Financial need is not considered. To increase diversity and inclusiveness in PGA of America Membership, preference will be given to diverse individuals, including but not limited to women and people of color, if needed.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America and PGA of America. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • Complete Golf Verification Form. If unable to complete, upload three scorecards from rounds played in the past 6 months.
  • Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 8, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
